The currently-available 2016 Ford F-150 is one of the most groundbreaking trucks ever produced, and yet Naperville and Oswego drivers are already eager to find out more about the upcoming 2017 Ford F-150 model. Over here at River View Ford, we’re only too happy to comply, so here’s the latest news of this hotly-anticipated truck.
It has now been confirmed that the 2017 Ford F-150 will benefit from improved performance thanks to the addition of a new EcoBoost V6 engine. Ford promises that it will displace 3.5 liters, and that it will offer a number of power and efficiency advantages over the first-generation engine of the same size that launched way back in 2009.
Horsepower is expected to remain at a formidable 365 horsepower, but Naperville and Oswego drivers will be able to look forward to making up to 450 lb-ft of torque – that’s a significant 30 pound-feet more than the outgoing engine. The long-awaited 2017 F-150 Raptor model will receive its own higher-output version– one said to command up to a phenomenal 450 horsepower.
The new EcoBoost engine is about four pounds lighter than its predecessor, a move that complements the lightweight construction of the F-150’s aluminum-alloy body. That is expected to result in a drop in fuel consumption, especially considering that each new EcoBoost will be paired to a cutting-edge 10-speed transmission system.
Ford is spending a reported $1.545 billion to upgrade their facilities in Michigan and Ohio to accommodate this new powertrain combination, so it’s clear they’re fully invested in its potential. With smaller steps between gears, you can expect dedicated performance while coping with anything from off-road hauling to long-distance highway cruising.
Ford has also announced that the 2017 F-150 will be fitted with Auto Start-Stop technology in order to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. This system will be able to immediately shut down the engine when the F-150 comes to a full stop, then smoothly restart it again once the brakes are released, unless you’re either towing a trailer or in 4-wheel-drive mode.
Ford have estimated that this enhancement could impact over 60 percent of the total volume of its best-selling vehicle. The Focus, Fusion, Edge and Escape have already experimented with such technology, and its addition to a work-ready truck demonstrates just how resourceful Ford can be when looking to improve efficiency.
The team here at River View Ford are just as excited about the upcoming 2017 Ford F-150 as our Naperville and Oswego customers, so we’re keeping our ears close to the ground in order to pick up the latest announcements and rumors. If you’d like to find out all the latest updates, don’t hesitate to get in touch today.
