Ford F-150Naperville and Oswego drivers have gotten used to hearing about the benefits of the Ford F-150’s aluminum body, but they might not know how eco-friendly it is. In addition to providing advantages to the driver that cover everything from capability to efficiency, the 2016 model is also the greenest ever F-150 thanks to extensive recycling efforts. Keep reading to learn more about the eco-friendly F-150.

The F-150 Goes Eco-Friendly

Ford currently recycles as much as 20 million pounds of aluminum stamping scrap each month in their closed-loop system at the Dearborn Stamping Plant. This recycled material is then used to build parts for the F-150 at Ford’s Dearborn Truck and Kansas City Assembly Plants.

Recycling any material is a plus, but reusing aluminum is doubly advantageous. Recycling it avoids a whopping 95% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with primary production, and it also drastically reduces the amount of energy and water needed during construction. This means that the Ford F-150 leads the full-size truck segment in terms of lifetime carbon footprint.

Reduced Emissions

Of course, it isn’t just the recycling of aluminum that gives a boost to the Ford F-150’s eco-friendly credentials. The high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body has resulted in up to a 60 lb weight reduction over the previous generation, and that pays dividends when it comes to fuel efficiency.

In fact, when your F-150 is equipped with the available 2.7L EcoBoost engine, you’ll be able to earn up to a Best-in-Class 19 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway.

Improved Capability

Reduced emissions and a lower carbon footprint are ideal attributes in the modern world, but Naperville and Oswego drivers need to put capability first when they’re looking for a new truck. Luckily, the Ford F-150’s aluminum body has also improved performance.

Just take a look at how much it can haul and carry:

  • The F-150 boasts a Best-in-Class tow rating of up to 12,200 lbs.
  • The F-150 delivers a Best-in-Class maximum payload rating of 3,270 lbs.
