Ford is Testing a Right-Hand-Drive Mustang

2015 Ford MustangAccording to a recent press release, the folks at Ford are hard at work on a new right-hand-drive 2015 Ford Mustang, signaling a global release for this iconic car sometime next year. Such an addition to the Ford lineup would let this iconic pony car make its way to more than twenty-five right-hand-drive markets internationally, including the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa. This is a pretty big deal actually; this would make it the first time in its 50-year history that the Mustang would be available in a right-hand-drive configuration. This is good news for drivers the world over, but all of us at River View Ford are looking forward to offering the 2015 Mustang locally to drivers around Plainfield and Naperville.

How Badly Does The World Want the 2015 Ford Mustang?

Considering the Mustang’s sales history, it seems the world wants it pretty badly. In the US — the Mustang’s largest market –— Ford has sold 9.2 million Mustang models since 1964, the year of the car’s debut. In the same 50-year period, 161,000 Mustang models have been sold on the international market. And in 2012 alone, over 4,000 Mustang models were sold in 35 countries outside North America, ranging from Chile to the United Arab Emirates to the Philippines.

The Mustang was recently elected by AutoScout24 as “Europe’s Most Wanted Classic Car,” and they’ll certainly have more chances of getting it with the release of the right-hand-drive version. The Ford Mustang is in fact, as of this year, one of the few vehicles in existence to have been in continuous production for 50 years. It seems safe to say that the 2015 Ford Mustang is going to be the hottest thing on the market since, well, the previous Mustang.

The 2015 Ford Mustang

The 2015 Ford Mustang will arrive on the streets of Naperville with a more aggressive look than its predecessor, being a couple inches lower and a few inches wider. Nevertheless, it retains iconic Mustang design cues like the muscular trapezoidal grille, the angled back headlights, the fastback roofline, and formidable three-bar taillights. Although the powerful coupe is still in the works, one thing we do know is its available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine will offer 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.
