River View Ford is dedicated to investigating current trends that may provide helpful information to our customers around Plainfield and Naperville who are making the choice of which vehicle is the best fit for them and their lifestyle. Current consumer research over the past few years shows that, within the millennial generation — those born between the early 1980s through the 2000s — have an increasing interest in considering utility vehicles when purchasing a car. And “beginning in 2012, Ford surpassed other manufacturers to become the No. 1 brand first considered by millennial buyers,” Corporate Ford News reports.

Concurrent Trends

Though small and midsize vehicles remain the top-selling segments among young car-buyers, with the millennials beginning to have families, interest in considering SUVs has seen the biggest jump. Coinciding with this lifestyle change in millennails is Ford, which has shown that it is ready to accommodate this shift. Corporate Ford News adds, “In the same period in which millennials began to show greater interest in SUVs, Ford overhauled its high-volume utility vehicle lineup, most notably Explorer in 2011 and Escape in 2012.” Both the Explorer and the Escape have seen record sales numbers in recent months. July 2014 saw more Explorer models sold since 2005 and more Escape models sold than ever before.
