Located right here in Oswego, IL, North Adams Park is small but mighty. Bring the dog for a stroll, or fish in the Fox River. This small “pocket park” is a secluded refuge for drivers from Yorkville and beyond.
Six acres of native woodlands make up Mundsinger Woods. Nature lovers will find plant species such as perennial wildflowers, wild cherry trees, white oaks, and more. The park is named after Frederick Mundsinger, a German immigrant who moved to the area in the 19th century and used the area for firewood and cattle grazing.
Wander along the Morgan Creek Prairie/Wetland walking paths, taking in the views of native plants and searching for animals. In fact, there are many sections within the park geared toward supporting plant life, with some soil in the area deemed naturally occurring, acidic, organic soils formed 7,000 to 8,000 years ago.
Hudson Crossing Park is also located on the banks of the Fox River in Oswego, IL, and it features the Egret sculpture garden, canoe access, a concert/festival area, and more. The Village of Oswego was also founded in this area, where native Americans crossed the river and wagons and stagecoaches traveled.
Head to Waubonsie Lake Park in Aurora, IL for an afternoon of hiking. A 2.6-mile loop trail promises scenic views and proves ideal for all skill levels. The trail is often frequented from May until October, but winter hikes are great, too!
