The 50th Anniversary Mustang Began as the Mustang 1 Concept

50th Anniversary Mustang - Mustang 1 ConceptFive decades ago, Ford Motor Company introduced a vehicle to the world that would change the face of American automotive manufacturing. In the early 1960’s, Ford engineers developed the original pony car, known then as the Mustang 1 Concept. Little did Ford know that the Mustang would have a lasting impact on a worldwide scale. Now, the 50th anniversary Mustang is fast approaching and we want to celebrate it with our customers here at River View Ford in Oswego! Let’s explore how the Mustang got its start and how the 2015 Ford Mustang is offering drivers a fresh look at American muscle once again.

Developing a Sensation: The Mustang 1 Concept

With an image of pure performance in mind, the Mustang 1 Concept first hit the drawing board in the spring of 1962. Ford wanted to show consumers that they weren’t just about economy vehicles and luxury sedans, so when a finalized version of the Mustang 1 Concept was first introduced to the public in October of 1962, it really made an impression. While, the Mustang 1 Concept did not completely make it to production, some design cues were used for the final version of the first Ford Mustang. This includes the Mustang name, which inspires images of the American West and the World War II fighter plane. Another legacy design element is the image of the galloping horse badge, which adorned the hood of many Mustang generations, and is still well recognized today.

The 50th Anniversary Mustang Delivers Modern Muscle

To match any driving style, the next-generation 2015 Ford Mustang will offer drivers a broad range of powerful engine options to choose from. The 3.7L V6 engine will be making a return, as well as an improved available 5.0L V8 powertrain. A brand new 2.3L EcoBoost engine will be available for the 2015 Ford Mustang also. This powertrain features a high-capacity, direct injection system for optimum fuel delivery and performance output without compromising efficiency. No matter what your sports car needs may be, the all-new Ford Mustang offers an engine option to meet them.
